Council Meetings

Council meetings are usually held on the fourth Monday of each month.

Meetings are held at the Council Chambers, 32 Salisbury Street, Uralla commencing at 12.00noon. Meeting dates are listed in the What's On section of this website.

Meetings are open to the public to attend. At the end of a meeting there may a closed session at which the public is excluded where Council can discuss matters such as those that are commercial in confidence. Those matters are listed in the business paper with the reason that the matter is proposed to be discussed in closed session.

Council provides residents with a "Have Your Say" opportunity at Council meetings. Residents wishing to use this forum to communicate with Council are asked to make arrangements with the General Manager's Personal Assistant on the Monday two weeks prior to the meeting so that the item may included in the agenda.

"Have Your Say" rules

Any resident of the Shire may nominate for the ?Have your Say' session. The following rules apply:

  • Any person wishing to participate in the "Have your Say" section must register that interest with the General Manager in sufficient time to have adequate notice of that proposal included in the Business Papers when they are delivered to Councillors. When registering, the person will need to indicate the topic for the address.
  • Unless the Meeting grants an extension of time, each speaker will be limited to a time limit of five minutes on each topic to be addressed.
  • Council will allow more than one speaker to address Council on one particular topic but, with the aim of preventing repetition of the same views, the limit on the number of speakers on one topic is set at three people, unless Council resolves that additional speakers will be heard.
  • People participating in the "Have your Say" session need to be aware that it is not a Question and Answer session. They will be permitted to ask a question during their address but it will be entirely at the discretion of the Chairperson, or a particular Councillor or staff member if the question is directed to those particular people, whether they choose to answer the question at the Meeting or take the question on notice.
  • Council always retains the right to approve a person to participate in the "Have your Say" session when that person has not registered that interest with the General Manager in due time for appropriate notice, but only if a motion is passed by the Council to allow that address under the same terms that apply to any business which is proposed for transaction at a Meeting when due notice has not been given.
